Overnight, I was awakened by the sound of rain hitting the
side of the motorhome.
It didn’t appear
to be a heavy rain, just a steady and continuing rainfall that ended by
morning.
The clouds from the overnight
rains must have kept the warmth in the canyon as we work up to a nice 66F
inside the RV.
Our next destination was Valdez, where we would camp a
couple of nights before meeting up with our friends Jan & Eric for a few
days out on their boat the Sea Duction.
I have been very blessed to have made so many friends in Alaska; people
who we enjoy being with. Jan & Eric
became fast friends, since my first “meeting” Jan on Trip Advisor several years
ago.
As you approach Valdez, one of the notable glaciers in this region is the Worthington Glacier. The weather wasn't the greatest, but we still got out to walk around and take a photo or two.
We arrived in Valdez on Sunday, with Monday being an open
day to explore the town. While I had
hoped we’d see bears near the fishery, there were none so we just kept the RV
parked in camp for our time there. We did see a couple of eagles, high up in the trees.
On
Monday after doing laundry, we enjoyed a leisurely stroll up to the Valdez
Museum in spite of the light afternoon drizzle.
The museum was very educational and not too large or overwhelming. Some of the historical photos were amazing,
particularly those taken during the earthquake of 1964.
We met Jan & Eric for breakfast.
After a short time, it was like we were old friends reconnecting after years apart.
They are such good people; down to earth
folks. I feel so fortunate to be
able to call them friends.
